Fluoride
Overview
Fluoride is a natural mineral that plays a crucial role in preventing tooth decay and strengthening enamel. While it's found in most toothpaste and even public water supplies, the concentrated fluoride treatments offered in our office provide a higher level of protection—especially for those at higher risk for cavities.
Applied as a quick, topical treatment, fluoride helps remineralize weak spots in the enamel before they turn into cavities. It’s safe, painless, and recommended for children, teens, seniors, and anyone more prone to tooth decay.
Procedure Details
-
No special preparation is needed.
Fluoride treatments are typically done at the end of your routine cleaning.
Let us know if you’ve had any recent sensitivity or cavities.
-
We’ll dry your teeth and apply a fluoride varnish, foam, or gel to the surfaces of your teeth.
The fluoride is either brushed on, placed in a tray, or swished depending on the type used.
The application takes just a few minutes and is completely painless.
-
Avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes to allow the fluoride to fully absorb.
You may notice a slightly coated feeling on your teeth for a short time—this is normal and will go away.
There are no activity restrictions following the procedure.
